Dish Names and Their Translation Limits

A translated name may leave practical details unstated.

A useful distinction

An English menu name can emphasise a flavour, ingredient or familiar presentation. It may not explain every component or preparation step. Translation is therefore a starting point for questions, not proof that two similarly named dishes are identical.

Put it into practice

Record the original name where available and the description supplied by its author. Ask about ingredients when that information matters. Avoid replacing missing details with assumptions from another restaurant, and do not use a translated title to make an allergy-safety conclusion.
