Keep Measurements Consistent

An amount needs a unit and an ingredient context.

A useful distinction

A gram is not a cup, and a spoon measurement should not be read as a weight without the appropriate information. Ingredients can also be described in prepared or unprepared form. Consistency helps preserve the recipe’s intended quantities.

Put it into practice

Copy quantities with their units and preparation notes. Use suitable measuring tools and resolve ambiguous abbreviations before starting. When writing an adaptation, state which measurement system you used rather than presenting a rough visual estimate as if it were a tested recipe quantity.
